a classic
By Benjamin Crowell
This is a best-of-breed book. Its highlight is the extensive use of relativity to develop the idea of electromagnetism as the first unified field theory. Although the book does present the mathematical tools of vector calculus from scratch, it is clearly designed for students who are physics majors, have had a substantial high school physics course, and have had strong mathematical preparation. I would not dare to use this book to teach an E&M course to a less elite audience.

The use of cgs units in this book is IMO a nuisance. Given the book's emphasis on relativity as a link between electricity and magnetism, it's nice to use a system in which E and B have the same units. However, I prefer to handle this by using SI units and writing Maxwell's equations with the coupling constants expressed as k and k/c^2, which makes the relativistic links almost as evident and allows a much easier connection with practical laboratory measurements.

The book is extremely old, and although Maxwell's equations haven't changed, some of the discussion of experimental evidence, e.g., bounds on the non-neutrality of the hydrogen atom, are many decades out of date.

Excellent book for those that are dedicated
By The Dude
This is an excellent book or an introduction to electricity and magnetism. It does a great job at explaining the background of concepts as well as deriving equations. This is a very difficult text but is rewarding and does a great job at covering the material. It is not watered down at all. Also has many interesting problems, many of which will take a deep understanding of the concepts that one should know at this level to be able to solve.
Classic.

Moonwalking With Einstein: The Art and Science of Remembering Everything, by Joshua Foer

Foer's unlikely journey from chronically forgetful science journalist to U.S. Memory Champion frames a revelatory exploration of the vast, hidden impact of memory on every aspect of our lives.

On average, people squander forty days annually compensating for things they've forgotten. Joshua Foer used to be one of those people. But after a year of memory training, he found himself in the finals of the U.S. Memory Championship. Even more important, Foer found a vital truth we too often forget: In every way that matters, we are the sum of our memories.

Moonwalking with Einstein draws on cutting-edge research, a surprising cultural history of memory, and venerable tricks of the mentalist's trade to transform our understanding of human remembering. Under the tutelage of top "mental athletes," he learns ancient techniques once employed by Cicero to memorize his speeches and by Medieval scholars to memorize entire books. Using methods that have been largely forgotten, Foer discovers that we can all dramatically improve our memories.

Immersing himself obsessively in a quirky subculture of competitive memorizers, Foer learns to apply techniques that call on imagination as much as determination-showing that memorization can be anything but rote. From the PAO system, which converts numbers into lurid images, to the memory palace, in which memories are stored in the rooms of imaginary structures, Foer's experience shows that the World Memory Championships are less a test of memory than of perseverance and creativity.

Foer takes his inquiry well beyond the arena of mental athletes-across the country and deep into his own mind. In San Diego, he meets an affable old man with one of the most severe case of amnesia on record, where he learns that memory is at once more elusive and more reliable than we might think. In Salt Lake City, he swaps secrets with a savant who claims to have memorized more than nine thousand books. At a high school in the South Bronx, he finds a history teacher using twenty- five-hundred-year-old memory techniques to give his students an edge in the state Regents exam.

At a time when electronic devices have all but rendered our individual memories obsolete, Foer's bid to resurrect the forgotten art of remembering becomes an urgent quest. Moonwalking with Einstein brings Joshua Foer to the apex of the U.S. Memory Championship and readers to a profound appreciation of a gift we all possess but that too often slips our minds.

Amazon.com Review

Amazon Best Books of the Month, March 2011: Moonwalking with Einstein follows Joshua Foer's compelling journey as a participant in the U.S. Memory Championship. As a science journalist covering the competition, Foer became captivated by the secrets of the competitors, like how the current world memory champion, Ben Pridmore, could memorize the exact order of 1,528 digits in an hour. He met with individuals whose memories are truly unique—from one man whose memory only extends back to his most recent thought, to another who can memorize complex mathematical formulas without knowing any math. Brains remember visual imagery but have a harder time with other information, like lists, and so with the help of experts, Foer learned how to transform the kinds of memories he forgot into the kind his brain remembered naturally. The techniques he mastered made it easier to remember information, and Foer's story demonstrates that the tricks of the masters are accessible to anyone.
--Miriam Landis

Author Q&A with Joshua Foer

Q: First, can you explain the title of you book, Moonwalking with Einstein?

A: The title refers to a memory device I used in the US Memory Championship—specifically it's a mnemonic that helped me memorize a deck of playing cards. Moonwalking with Einstein works as a mnemonic because it's such a goofy image. Things that are weird or colorful are the most memorable. If you try to picture Albert Einstein sliding backwards across a dance floor wearing penny loafers and a diamond glove, that's pretty much unforgettable.

Q: What are the U.S. Memory Championships? How did you become involved?

A: The U.S. Memory Championship is a rather bizarre contest held each spring in New York City, in which people get together to see who can remember the most names of strangers, the most lines of poetry, the most random digits. I went to the event as a science journalist, to cover what I assumed would be the Super Bowl of savants. But when I talked to the competitors, they told me something really interesting. They weren't savants. And they didn't have photographic memories. Rather, they'd trained their memories using ancient techniques. They said anyone could do it. I was skeptical. Frankly, I didn't believe them. I said, well, if anyone can do it, could you teach me? A guy named Ed Cooke, who has one of the best trained memories in the world, took me under his wing and taught me everything he knew about memory techniques. A year later I came back to the contest, this time to try and compete, as a sort of exercise in participatory journalism. I was curious simply to see how well I'd do, but I ended up winning the contest. That really wasn't supposed to happen.

Q: What was the most surprising thing you found out about yourself competing in the Memory Championships?

A: In the process of studying these techniques, I learned something remarkable: that there's far more potential in our minds than we often give them credit for. I'm not just talking about the fact that it's possible to memorize lots of information using memory techniques. I'm talking about a lesson that is more general, and in a way much bigger: that it's possible, with training and hard work, to teach oneself to do something that might seem really difficult.

Q: Can you explain the "OK Plateau?"

A: The OK Plateau is that place we all get to where we just stop getting better at something. Take typing, for example. You might type and type and type all day long, but once you reach a certain level, you just never get appreciably faster at it. That's because it's become automatic. You've moved it to the back of your mind's filing cabinet. If you want to become a faster typer, it's possible, of course. But you've got to bring the task back under your conscious control. You've got to push yourself past where you're comfortable. You have to watch yourself fail and learn from your mistakes. That's the way to get better at anything. And it's how I improved my memory.

Q: What do you mean by saying there an "art" to memory?

A: The "art of memory" refers to a set of techniques that were invented in ancient Greece. These are the same techniques that Cicero used to memorize his speeches, and that medieval scholars used to memorize entire books. The "art" is in creating imagery in your mind that is so unusual, so colorful, so unlike anything you've ever seen before that it's unlikely to be forgotten. That's why mnemonists like to say that their skills are as much about creativity as memory.

Q: How do you think technology has affected how and what we remember?

A: Once upon a time people invested in their memories, they cultivated them. They studiously furnished their minds. They remembered. Today, of course, we've got books, and computers and smart phones to hold our memories for us. We've outsourced our memories to external devices. The result is that we no longer trust our memories. We see every small forgotten thing as evidence that they're failing us altogether. We've forgotten how to remember.

Q: What is the connection between memory and our sense of time?

A: As we get older, life seems to fly by faster and faster. That's because we structure our experience of time around memories. We remember events in relation to other events. But as we get older, and our experiences become less unique, our memories can blend together. If yesterday's lunch is indistinguishable from the one you ate the day before, it'll end up being forgotten. That's why it's so hard to remember meals. In the same way, if you're not doing things that are unique and different and memorable, this year can come to resemble the last, and end up being just as forgettable as yesterday's lunch. That's why it's so important to pack your life with interesting experiences that make your life memorable, and provide a texture to the passage of time.

Q: How is your memory now?

A: Ironically, not much better than when I started this whole journey. The techniques I learned, and used in the memory contest, are great for remembering structured information like shopping lists or phone numbers, but they don't improve any sort of underlying, generalizable memory ability. Unfortunately, I still misplace my car keys.

From Booklist
If you sometimes can't remember where you put your car keys or, like Foer, the car itself, don't panic. You're not alone, and you can do something about it. In this intriguing look at the nature of memory, Foer reassures us that we don't need to acquire a better memory; we just need to use the one we have more effectively. Foer introduces us to people whose memories are both astonishing, like the man who could memorize 1,528 random digits in order, and frightening, such as a man with such an extreme case of amnesia that he doesn't know his own age and can't remember that he has a memory problem. He explores various ways in which we test our memories, such as the extensive training British cabbies must undergo. He also discusses ways we can train ourselves to have better memories, like the PAO system, in which, for example, every card in a deck is associated with an image of a specific person, action, or object. An engaging, informative, and for the forgetful, encouraging book. --David Pitt

Review
"Absolutely phenomenal... Part of the beauty of this book is that it makes clear how memory and understanding are not two different things. Building up the ability to reason and the ability to retain information go hand in hand... I had originally assumed this book would divulge the secrets of an eternal memory to me; however, what I was given instead was far more insightful. This book is a wonderfully spun tale of Josh's journey to learn the secrets of our memory. He tells the reader about the history of memory and the philosophical ideologies of what memories really mean in our lives.
If you're looking for a how-to guide on memory, this is not it. Moreover, this book is about a year of Josh's life and the things he learned along the way. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for: a short read (I finished this in 2-days); a fantastic story; a introduction to memory training; or a stimuli to the question: what is memory?

Read this book, you won't be disappointed.

Amazingly Interesting and Helpful
By David Sheppard
This is one of those rare books that is not only a joy to read, but also immensely helpful. It can help all of us with something that is at once troublesome and worrisome: our memory. It does this with ease, not teaching us some grueling rote memory technique, but one that is easy, natural and intuitive. Yet Moonwalking with Einstein turns out to not be exclusively a how-to book on memory. So what is it?

Well, yes, it is about memory and how to improve it, but it is at once a history of techniques, a description of what memory is and what can go wrong with it, and also a running narrative of how the author, a journalist himself with no special memory skills, becomes one of the most proficient memory athletes in America.

I'd learned a mnemonic device to aid memorization decades ago while in college, and found it to be helpful, but for some reason I'd abandoned the technique once I graduated. But Moonwalking with Einstein expands the mnemonic technique I learned back then by use of something of which I'd never heard: the "Memory Palace." The Memory Palace exploits our inherent skill for remembering images and spatial locations, harnesses these two abilities we all posses in abundance, and relates them to the memorization of numbers, lists and assortments of other difficult to remember items. The amazing thing is that the Memory Palace not only makes memorization easy, it also makes it fun.

What makes the book so interesting is that it is narrative non-fiction and reads like a novel. The author locks his conflict with his own memory early on, gives a sense of rising tension as he accumulates the forces to overcome its limitations, and resolves this internal conflict at the end when he participates in the US Memory Championship. I didn't read it as urgently as I did today's number one bestseller, Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken, but still, I couldn't put it down.

In Chapter Five, I scanned the "to-do" list of fifteen items on pages 92/3 that the author had to memorize in his initial attempt, and developed the technique for myself as I read about the author memorizing it. As my Memory Palace, I used an old home of a high school friend with which I was still familiar, constructing useful details as I went. When I had finished reading about the author memorizing the list (took me about five minutes), I had memorized it myself, and I found that the items were not only immediately memorable, but that the list of items and their sequence was still with me days later, and so imbedded in my memory that I'm sure I'll ever forget it. All this, I accomplished effortlessly. This is a truly remarkable feat for me because I'm almost seventy years old and have chronic fatigue syndrome, which adversely affects all aspects of my memory.

It has also given me hope that I might finally learn ancient Greek. I tried to learn it several years ago, but found building a vocabulary so difficult that I abandoned the project. Rote memory was just too much trouble. I am interested in all things Greek, and as it turns out, the Memory Palace technique was invented in the fifth century BC by Simonides following his narrow escape from the collapse of a building. This in itself is a story you'll be interested in reading about. The author says that since the time of this ancient Greek, "the art of memory has been about creating architectural spaces in the imagination." Having been to Greece twice, I have all the makings of a superb Greek Memory Palace. While traveling around Greece and the western coast of Turkey for ten weeks, I visited many cities and islands: Athens, Thebes, Delphi, Ithaca, Mykonos, Delos, Santorini, etc. I can't count all the archaeological sites I visited. What I'm creating isn't just any old Memory Palace but actually a Memory Country. Within each location, I can identify as many locations for storing words and meanings as I need. But not only that, I can also use characters from Greek mythology to create actions and images to reinforce the material, as the author suggests. All this constitutes my Greek Memory Palace: the location where I will store ancient Greek words and meanings as I learn the language, in accordance with the instructions learned in Moonwalking with Einstein. None of it was difficult. I picked it up as I read the book.

The author describes how in the past people viewed their minds as something to perfect by loading it with all sorts of intellectual material. "People used to labor to furnish their minds. They invested in the acquisition of memories the same way we invest in the acquisition of things." [page 134] Some even believed that "the art of memory was a secret key to unlocking the occult structure of the universe." [page 151] This has given me an entirely new view of how to perceive my own mind and nourish it in the future.

The author also discusses how we came to lose touch with our ability to remember with the invention of the printed word. The history of that estrangement and how inventions like Wikipedia and the Internet foster that estrangement is a very interesting story. The author makes the reader aware of what is happening to us and provides a way to project ourselves into the future without suffering so much of technology's debilitating effects.

Perhaps the reason this book is so successful is that the reader never loses sight of the practical use of the information the author is providing because the author is discovering it himself and actively making use of it in his quest to make it into the US Memory Championship.

This is an important book. Everyone can benefit from reading it.

Very eye opening!
By Kenley
One of the major ideas that resonated with me was the fact that before writing, everything was committed to memory. That blows my mind to think about for some reason. At this day in age, we as humans do not have to memorize anything!! I think this is the reason we have such a hard time remembering simple things as “Where did I place my keys?” We don’t exercise our brains enough. This book opened my mind to just what my brain is capable of. I often walk into a book store and wish I could take in all the knowledge of every book on the shelves. Even if I were able to read each book in my lifetime, I would never be able to actually retain the information. The character S in this book is somewhat of a super hero in my eyes. The way he pictures things when reading them from a list is something straight from a comic book. This was one of the techniques the authored talked about using called the memory palace. There was one other technique discussed by the author that was very interesting to me called chunking. It’s when you are given a list of information and you break into several segments.

The author notes more than once that is very important for us to be mindful of the world around us and also how significant our worldly perceptions are. Anyone can train their brain with time and commitment. “Remembering can only happen if you take notice.”

A solid work of research and clinical practice. I simply love this book!
By Tauocaros
The great complement to Herbal Antibiotics. With those two books you are very much set as far as protecting your body from infections. Stephen Buhner has done excellent researches for this book again. The book ends with 50 pages of bibliography p. 333 to 385. For example, he is offering 42 references on Lomatium Dissectum (I have a thing for that root!).
This book is scientific, with solid evidences, and written by someone with good humor that actually use the plants mentioned in the book.
The book is well organized. It starts with an introduction to viruses and discuss the threat that they represent to our health.
Buhner goes on to describe several viruses and offers treatment options for each of them.
The Viral Materia Medica is very complete with 137 pages with an exhaustive description of each plant.
Honestly, I cannot find anything missing in there!
Chapter 6: Strengthening the immune system is particularly interesting. Then, he incorporates a brief discussion on herbal making.
I simply love this book and I recommend it to every herbal enthusiast whether you are novice or expert.
Thank you for this book!

Written with a wicked sense of humor
By Elskabar
Love this book. It is so packed with amazing information it needs to be in every home care and alternative medicine collection. I cannot undserestimate the value of the book, especially when you are given the small number of good sources of information out there. It is precise, informative and covers just about every aspect of the plant, including giving all the genuses of the plant along with their antiviral values as well. It clearly states which plants to use and which to avoid. It got me to Alibaba.com where I was able to order 20:1 extract of Chinese Skullcap root. I am officially following through with the information and locating sources for the plants.

The most important thing is that plants are also rated by over all strength and the pathogens against which they are effective are all listed. Get this now before it goes out of print and disappears from the book stores!

Very informative, if not scary book that can prepare you for the future
By James
The beginning of the book was very well written, and easy to understand even for someone with very little medical/viral/bacterial knowledge. Towards the end, medical jargon will alienate a lot of readers - but I'd say you'd only be interested in this last bit if you were a medical professional anyways.

The book clearly explains how the epidemic of viral infections has come about, and how, according to the author the world is unprepared to deal with the next great outbreak.

After the prologue, the author gives very easy to follow instructions on how to cultivate seven anti-viral herbs. He also lists, in detail how to extract the medically valuable materials that grow within the plant, variations of plant species and their potency, and dosage information.

I value this book and plan to grow a garden containing at least these seven herbs

Didn't go far enough!!!
By AZ Animators
I like Bill Plympton's films, and his animation style. I thought this book would reveal the secrets to being a successful animator. He introduces ideas to finance your film but doesn't give any specifics about how to attract investors or get grants to create a film. Instead I was treated to a autobiography rather than a how to manual. I did find the chapter on character design very helpful but the rest was very basic information that you would get in art school. I would have appreciated some breakdowns of his animation style or more technical coverage and less oh his personal history, but overall I think it is a good read if you are a fan of the artist and his movies.

Make Toons that Sell - from the heart!
By Sylvester Carolan
Whether you like Bill Plympton's style or not, you have to admire his amazing talent and his love of animation. Here is a book that tells it like it is: from the opening story of his deal with the devil, to his personal stories of struggling to make it. Not too make it big, but just to make a living doing what he loves.

I must say, I really enjoyed this book and was surprised by how much material Bill managed to cover - budgets, raising money, distribution, ideas, drawing techniques (I love the section on caricatures and his observation that the process is very similar to animation), and of course, animation. Character design, walk cycles, and use of color are also mentioned. This book really does touch on the whole animation process (at least from Bill's perspective) and contains a goldmine of nuggets in tips and techniques. As I read through the book, I found myself wanting to look at some of the examples being discussed, so it's shame a DVD wasn't included or at least a reference section after each section with any relevant websites.

A beautifully illustrated, designed, and well-written book. Highly recommended.

P.S. Idiots and Angels is mentioned extensively in the book. You can checkout clips from the movie here:

From the Inside Flap

Detective Shelley Krieg has lived her entire life in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC. At six-foot-four, she’s the giantess of DC Metro―a tough cop who’s paid her dues on her long path to becoming a detective in the city she loves. She can get a confession out of anyone. And she always plays by the rules. But when Rafael Hooks is arrested for killing his brother, all the rules change. Shelley finds herself not only fighting the system but also questioning her relationships with her co-workers, her closest friends, and even her partner, Kent Bellotti. It seems like an open-and-shut case: Raffi confesses to murdering his drug-dealing brother. But nothing is as it seems. Each time Shelley finds evidence to exonerate Raffi, new evidence arises to confirm his guilt. Fingerprints tying Raffi to multiple murders in both DC and neighboring Maryland suddenly appear out of thin air. And on his first night in lock-up, Raffi is nearly killed. With no allies left at DC Metro, Shelley turns to her estranged friend Yasmira Turner for help. Together Shelley and Mira uncover a web of deceit and corruption that links a Russian assassin, a high-paid DC call girl, and an urban Robin Hood who renovates his crack houses before donating them to the poor. Never Kill a Friend is a taut, suspenseful novel of conflicting loyalties, friends found and lost, and power in the wrong hands. It is a finely wrought tale of one woman’s quest to stay true to herself and to do the right thing for an innocent man.

A good summer read.
By crimereader
I might have had some reservations with the by-the-book detective going rogue like she did but it proved warranted in the end. The female friendship was endearing. I find interesting how Shelley will reconcile her feelings for the not-so-bad "drug dealer". A good summer read.

Never Kill a Friend
By Gloria Feit
From the publisher: Detective Shelley Krieg has lived her entire life in Washington, D.C. At six’4”, she the giantess of DC Metro - - a tough cop who’s played by the rules on her long path to becoming a detective in the city she loves. But when Rafael Hooks is arrested for killing his brother, all the rules change. Shelley fids herself not only fighting the system, but also questioning her relationships with her co-workers, her closest friends, and even her partner. With no allies left at DC Metro, Shelley turns to her estranged friend, Yasmira Tamer. Together Shelley and Mira uncover a web of deceit and corruption that links a Russian assassin, a high-paid DC call girl, and an urban Robin Hood who renovates his crack houses before donating them to the poor.

Shelley, a 31-year-old African-American, works out of the Third Police District of Washington Metro, which extends “from embassies and gentrified townhouses to stretches of urban decay.” The book opens with Shelley being called to the scene of a gruesome murder, the details of which I will kindly omit. The young man who called 911 is 19-year-old Rafael Hooks, the aforementioned brother of the dead man, and Shelley is convinced of his innocence, his confession notwithstanding. Her investigation leads her along unexpected paths, at times putting her in the cross-hairs of the assassin, being drugged in her own home, and not knowing who to trust, including her fellow police officers. But she has to follow her conscience, and won’t stop till she gets to the truth. The various plot lines did have this reader a bit confused at times (although not for too long). The writing, although I did not feel it was particularly elegant, nevertheless pulled me along to the point that, surprisingly to me, I found myself at the end within forty-eight hours of opening it up to the first page.

This is the first in a new police procedural mystery series featuring Shelley Krieg, who is both a fascinating protagonist, and one tough gal. I for one can’t wait for the next one!

Recommended.

Well-crafted and captivating
By Louis K. Lowy
Never Kill A Friend is a well-crafted mystery with interesting characters, particularly the protagonist, detective Shelly Krieg. Shelly, a 6’ 4” African American woman who works for Washington DC Metro, has a problem. Not only does she believe a jailed murderer is innocent, but worse, she wakes up in the middle of the night to find a corpse in her house.

The book has the most essential earmark of a topnotch detective tale—just when you think you know everything, you discover you don’t know anything.

One of the terrific aspects of the novel is Hill’s use of his environment, Washington DC. He wisely avoids the political aspect and centers his characters activities on the urban and suburban areas. It adds an aspect that dodges the clich and adds vibrancy to the novels already exciting, brisk pace.

Another sign of a captivating book—it ended all too soon and had me hoping that there will be a sequel.

Simple, Not Easy, Very Effective
By Brian
I just finished MMS. It was a huge success for me. I put on 10lbs of lean mass and got much much stronger. I have always been quite weak, and the first workout of 30x95 was a max for me. I didn't know how I was going to do it twice three days later. I ended up being fine and every workout felt like significant progress. I wanted to share some of the insights I have come up with from the experience.

A little background for reference:
Age: 25
Training Age: 2.5 years
Height: 6'2"
Starting Weight: 192lbs
Max Starting Back Squat: 225x2
Max Starting Bench: 185x1
Max Starting Press: 135x1

The final results were:
Weight: 202lbs
Back Squat: 205x30
Bench: 215x1
Complex: 2 reps at 125

Other relavent information:
Diet was paleo except for the protein shakes. I never missed a workout. I missed supplements and shakes 3 times in the 6 weeks. I always trained alone. I wouldn't have thought the last one mattered much, but thought more about it after reading the link on the Dan John blog recently.

As far as I'm concerned, any one of those numbers would have qualified for success, but the group is very satisfying.

Now for what I learned:

Complexes are key to making the gains lean. Along with their value in adding upper body mass, they keep the heart rate up to burn fat. The high rep complexes in the first part of the program were sometimes the hardest part of the workout. As the weight went up and the reps went down, the stress on the lungs and heart went way down, but my arms held me back in the pressing. I really enjoyed the complexes and will continue with them regularly.

Pressing takes a lot of reps. Like a lot people, overhead pressing has always been very difficult to me. Progress was very slow, but doing 30ish reps of bench and 20-30 reps of single arm presses added a lot of strength in those movements.

Warm ups and rest periods matter. In the past, I have done as little warm up reps and exercises as possible. With the stress involved in this program, I took the warm ups very seriously and used them to my advantage. I foam rolled and stretched every workout and never had a injury. I wouldn't expect anything major, but I didn't even have a twinge anywhere. As the weight went up in the pressing and complexes, the rest periods really started to matter. At first I was disappointed because they extended the workouts, but as my strength went up as I started training smarter, I discovered their value.

Size happens in clothes before the scale. All of my clothes are nearly too small with just 10lbs of mass gain. I feel like a completely different person even though not much has changed.

High rep squats burn out the mind and the back before anything else. I always quit the "to 50" sets when I thought I couldn't take the pain in my back any longer. I never worried about missing a rep, but resting with the bar on my back took as much out of me as the actual movement. I think my back turned out to be my most obvious weakest link. I will be focusing on back strength a lot in the near future.

When you are eating "clean" 3,000 calories is a lot of food. I never checked calories until the program was over because I was always eating as much as I could. I was shocked to find that even with the prescribed shakes, I was under 3,500 most days. I stayed with the paleo diet because it has kept me so healthy and I noticed major differences when I eat grains or dairy. I can see how valuable peanut butter and jelly sandwichs are though. When I recommend this program, I will make sure to say they are worth it if size is the goal.

Fiber helps.

I kept a lot of notes and have been writing a lot more since I completed the program. I think I learned a lot about myself and training from the past six weeks, but I expect to learn a lot more in the near future. Thanks for providing such a great program. Like most programs, when you DO them, they work.

Time to make a simple program to hit my weak points....

Another brilliant book. Exactly what I expect from Dan John, really. It's simple without being dumbed down, and you should come to understand the idea of adding one piece to the puzzle at a time, track your progress, and see what made the greatest difference for you.

I'm looking forward to trying the program.

Fluid Dynamics: Theoretical and Computational Approaches, Third Edition, by Z.U.A. Warsi

Many introductions to fluid dynamics offer an illustrative approach that demonstrates some aspects of fluid behavior, but often leave you without the tools necessary to confront new problems. For more than a decade, Fluid Dynamics: Theoretical and Computational Approaches has supplied these missing tools with a constructive approach that made the book a bestseller. Now in its third edition, it supplies even more computational skills in addition to a solid foundation in theory.

After laying the groundwork in theoretical fluid dynamics, independent of any particular coordinate system in order to allow coordinate transformation of the equations, the author turns to the technique of writing Navier–Stokes and Euler’s equations, flow of inviscid fluids, laminar viscous flow, and turbulent flow. He also includes requisite mathematics in several “Mathematical Expositions” at the end of the book and provides abundant end-of-chapter problems.

What’s New in the Third Edition?

  • New section on free surface flow
  • New section on instability of flows through Chaos and nonlinear dissipative systems
  • New section on formulation of the large eddy simulation (LES) problem
  • New example problems and exercises that reflect new and important topics of current interest
  • By integrating a strong theoretical foundation with practical computational tools, Fluid Dynamics: Theoretical and Computational Approaches, Third Edition is an indispensable guide to the methods needed to solve new and unfamiliar problems in fluid dynamics.

the best fluid dynamics book of 90s
    By A Customer
The best fluid dynamics book I've ever read because it is complete and accurate . It will be an everlasting value to keep at hand in every moment. Do use it whenever you need to understand or remember the kernel of the most common fluid dynamics phenomena. A must-have worth buying

One of the best on the market
    By Walter Reade
This is a fantastic fluid dynamics book! It is clearly written and easy to follow. The chapter exercises are very useful. Chapters include kinematics of fluid motion, conservation laws and kinematics of flows, Navier-Stokes equations, inviscid flows, laminar viscous flow, and turbulent flow. (The chapter on turbulent flow is excellent, balancing the right amount of theory and modeling.)
The book also includes chapters on important mathematical concepts such as base vectors and representations, Gauss, Green, and Stokes theorems, geometry of space and plane curves, coordinate transformations, potential theory, singularities of the first order ODEs, geometry of surfaces, finite difference applied to PDSs, and frame invariancy.
This is an excellent book that would be an excellent choice for advanced-undergraduate and graduate study.

    More Math than Physics
    By Marco G F Capozzi
This book is a very comprehensive one. It treats Incompressible flows, laminar and turbulent ones. It will guide you through the derivation of NS equation, boundary layer equation, and it will give you an introduction to turbulence. The book is complete in the sense that it deeply describes every aspect of the subject, but it does it ONLY from the MATHEMATHICAL point of view. No physics, no pictures (almost). It isn't ABSOLUTELY an introductory book: the level of mathematics is pretty high.
