THEY COPIED AND PASTED THE MATH PROBLEMS FROM THEIR BOOK FOR THE OLD TEST TO THIS VERSION OF THE BOOK FOR THE REDESIGNED TEST!!

Complete garbage.

I have used the Barrons series of books for the past 8 years as my go-to for all of my company's SAT and ACT prep classes and was STUNNED when I just opened this book. THE PROBLEM SETS FOR THE MATH PORTION OF THIS NEW BOOK FOR THE REDESIGNED SAT ARE THE EXACT SAME ONES THAT THEY HAD FOR THE OLD VERSION OF THE SAT! I mean EXACTLY the same.They literally copy and pasted 18/20 of the math problem sets from old to new. What in the heck are these people at Barrons thinking? How is it possible to use the EXACT SAME problem sets for a RADICALLY REDESIGNED test? They did add a Trigonometry and an Imaginary and Complex number section to the math problem sets but the rest of the math practice sets are useless.

Also the diagnostic test does not have each question labeled as say "Coordinate Geometry" or " Ratios and Proportions/Word Problems" like their previous books did. This allowed students and myself to easily highlight specific weaknesses and go to a particular section of the book to work on those areas.

What is weird is the diagnostic test math problems do look like the redesigned test problem sets but they do not correlate with the practice sets they carried over from the old version.

Seriously how in good conscience can they sell this book to students preparing for such an important test? This is a rip-off-STAY AWAY!

Very disappointed

Very disappointed with Barron's. I have used and recommended Barron's test prep books for over 10 years; I was waiting for this book for a class on the new SAT; the other books out there for the new SAT are below average (2 stars)
It seems that the authors have not fully realized that the new SAT has about 25 percent overlap with the old SAT, both in content and question types. This book is about 60% old SAT and 40% new SAT; seems like they copied their old book and make some changes. More than 2/3 of the new SAT math requires 2/3 algebra; in this book about only about 1/5 of the pages are dedicated to algebra. Also, they recommend picking numbers for algebra problems; this strategy will not work for the new SAT math. For the new writing section, there is not a single question related to improving paragraph effectiveness by rearranging sentences, not even in the practice tests. These questions are the toughest and thus students need more help on them.

This book is not up to Barron's standard.

Thick with knowledge!

I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but I'll give it 5 anyways and why: IT'S THICK! Sure, the book doesn't have EVERYTHING, but it's enough for a good review/prep. I am not particularly using this for SAT prep, as much as I am using it as a reference.

The heaviest parts of the book focus primarily on the math part of the test. I'm 100% forgetful when it comes to math, so I am grateful over how dense it is. It pretty much goes over everything you will need to know on the math portion. My favorite part of the math section are all the tactics they give you. WHY WASN'T I AWARE OF THEM ALL? The book literally give you tips and tricks on how to solve problems quick and easy without using the least math as possible, or at least using no-brainer equations. I have already graduated college and this is the first time I have ever been excited about math.

The second heaviest part of the book works on the reading, language, and (optional) essay portion of the test. It's not as dense as the math section (which I know some people were upset about), but it does have some very interesting tactics. The book spends a while on grammar and has a very handy section on how to recognize question types on the reading section. The book also provides their own little dictionary that students can use to look up words while they are doing everyday reading. It's a compiled list of words most likely to appear on the test. The essay part is optional, but it's a good writing review and goes over how to write a great essay, which is handy in college!

A really nice bonus are the vocabulary flash cards at the back of the book. I already know a lot of the words from my constant use of them in writing stories, but a refresher is always nice. Besides, I am a part time English teacher in Japan, and this is great vocabulary for my students.

Overall I really like this book, and have gotten a lot of use out of it! In terms of getting a score above 1200, this will help, but don't stop studying the old fashioned way!

Great Text

This is a well written text that I feel should be required for all DPT students and entry-level muscuoskeletal clinicians to read. With emerging literature stating that derangements may be as common in the extremities as they are in the spine, it will allow our patients to get classified and treated quicker. The method just makes sense! Robin McKenzie was definately ahead of his time.

About the Author

Dave Taylor has been in the computer industry since 1980. He was a contributor to BSD 4.4 UNIX, and his software is included in all major UNIX distributions. He is an award-winning public speaker and has written thousands of magazine and newspaper articles. He is the author of 20 books, including Learning UNIX for Mac OS X (O'Reilly), Solaris for Dummies (Hungry Minds), and Teach Yourself UNIX in 24 Hours (SAMS). A popular columnist for Linux Journal magazine, he also maintains a customer tech support website at askdavetaylor.com.

Brandon Perry started writing C# applications with the advent of the open source .NET implementation called Mono. In his free time, he enjoys writing modules for the Metasploit framework, parsing binary files, and fuzzing things.

This edition of wicked cool shell scripts is truly useful. It takes a Maker Scrapbook approach to illustrating BASH :-)

101 Useful, or Imaginative Applications of the BASH language are given, ranging from automatically backing up your files and applications to Google Drive (and other cloud services), to Image and Photo Manipulation, to finding Prime Numbers. Like other Maker Scrapbook books, it gives trully interesting, useful and exciting applications of the technology, and tells how they can be easily hacked/modified to your tastes. While there is a gradual pace from the simplest projects, to the most complex and sophisticated this is different than the typical approach to learning BASH or another programming language. The power of the language and other Linux tools are well illustrated, as are some hints on how these applications (the book's shell scripts) can be modified to meet differing needs Some readers without a basic knowledge of the widely available BASH shell may wish to have another, more conventional, programming tutorial at hand to learn basic variables, control structures, etc.

The availability of BASH on OS X and Windows 10 is documented, however more information on differences and actual use are given for OS X due to the extreme recency of Canonical/Microsoft's BASH/Ubuntu Shell on Windows.

I recommend this book for both those IT people who write and run shell scripts daily, and you developer types who only occasionally require the use of shell scripts to perform some computer workflow. This "Wicked Cool Shell Scripts” book is especially beneficial for those, like me as a developer, who only need occasional use of shell scripts. Like me, are you tired of looking for shell script “how to” help online via “man pages” only to find out what you want to know is not there? For years, I’ve struggled with getting shell scripts to perform something I desperately needed to perform many times giving up. Now this book is beside my development workstation where I can quickly find out how to make a shell script perform some work for me. I am finding that I am making more beneficial use of shell scripts because this book is there for convenient and rapid pop up of “how to” script details. For you IT professionals who think you know everything you need for the use and application of shell scripts, I’ll bet this book can teach you some new scripting trips you were now aware of. The book authors, Dave Taylor and Brandon Perry, make available downloadable copies of all the shell scripts discussed in this book. This "Wicked Cool Shell Scripts” book is well organized such that it is easy quick to located the shell script that you so desperately need to use.

Be careful, the paperback version is a study guide

I had to quickly cancel the order. I saw the hardback at >$150 and the paperback at around $40, figured let's go for the paperback. What's not clear is that the "paperback version" is the study guide, not the book itself. Too misleading.

I do not feel this book is a good educational tool

I have recently taken Macroeconomics and Microeconomics. The subject was difficult, but able to be grasped with some study. (I am an adult student)As for the "International Economics" textbook, I feel it is very poor as an educational medium. If you ever really sit and attempt to read this thing, all you are reading are a bunch of letters. There is no sense to the material and very little attempt to clarify anything. It is confusing enough to learn a difficult subject without having to decipher every letter of the alphabet into a different word or variable. I understand brevity is necessary to avoid repetition, but please! This is to be a learning tool. There should at least be some attempt to 'spell out' the information once. I feel this book was a very bad investment on my part, and would never have been my chosen text for this topic. I wouldn't even give it one star, but that was as low as I was able to select.

Thick writing, outdated, but seems to hit the basics of international economics.

I have purchased and used numerous economics textbooks, and while this one covers the basic principles, it does so in a way that is difficult to understand. I felt like there was a lack of meaningful diagrams, tables, and illustrations at key points that would have reinforced key principles. Also, the text would frequently reference tables and diagrams on different pages, such that it was difficult to comprehend concepts while flipping between thick text and different pages for graphical guidance. Husted et al seem to take a very math-based approach to the subject, and spend a lot of time in the derivation process in explaining the background of formulas and principles.

It's also outdated. It constantly refers to "current events" in 1990s economics, and basically has no data beyond 2003, anecdotal or otherwise. With huge economic happenings over the past few years (specifically, 2008 and beyond), this edition could be safely mothballed in academia.
