Great value

This beautiful edition includes both the well known lives of the first twelve Caesars (from Julius Caesar to Domitian) and the biographies of a number of famous men (previously unknown to me). A bonus extra is the collection of lives of later Caesars known as the Historia Augusta, authors unknown but sometimes wrongly attributed to Suetonius. The book provides both English translations and Latin texts for all the works, with a parallel English/Latin version of the Lives of the Caesars. As usual for this series it is beautifully illustrated and contains a biography of Suetonius and his works by J.C. Rolfe.
The kindle edition has a table of contents and is easily navigable.
Suetonius wrote entertaining biographies of his subjects containing a lot of often scurrilous gossip. This makes it suitable for the general reader who is interested in ancient Rome. It is also a key text for students of Roman history and students of Latin will find the access to the Latin texts with English translations from a range of English authors a very valuable resource.
Another wonderful resource at a very modest price from Delphi.

The Delphi Ancient Classics are very well formatted for the Kindle. It is easy to use and wonderful to read. If you need a professional edition for research or textual criticism, please use a printed book. This Kindle edition is wonderful for the casual but interested reader.

History influenced by later Politics in the Roman Empire

I have always enjoyed Suetonius writings but this translation is new to me.
Nothing hangs on the issue but if you have a yen for learning about not only who did what, to whom, but the graphic details (although the numbers have probably been exaggerated for effect) then this is the book for you.
You can obtain Dio Cassius, Julius Caesar on the Gallic and the Civil Wars, or Tacitus, whose work on Germania, The Histories and the Annals together will give you a lot of supplementary information on some of the sources Suetonius draws.
