Wake up, lady and pay attention!

I gave this 3 stars because I liked Travis, and the way the story started. However, about half-way through the book, I became annoyed. Sorry to give part of the plot away, but Elizabeth was married (?) to a bigamist. She met the guy while in college. Her move to Glenwood is so she can start over where no one knows her. Now she's attracted to Travis, who has the Haynes boys' reputation of love 'em and leave 'em. The difference here is that everyone knows the guy, he's not married and just about everyone but Elizabeth can see he's serious about her. The last quarter of the book was just so much emoting about--how can I trust ever again--that I just read the end to finish it. This is part of the Haynes brothers series, so if you've read any of the others, you'll probably read this too.

Although the Kindle version says the release date is October 2015, the book was originally published in 1994 - thus why, as another reviewer mentioned, the recovery time from a surgery is so long. Overall good Susan Mallery book

Seriously ?

Maybe its different else where, but out here when one has an appendectomy its usually laparoscopic surgery, meaning a minimally invasive incision and little to no real hospital time; and most people I know are up and about in a couple of days. Probably not playing golf but certainly not in bed for a week; even c-sections go home 2 days post op and have to move around - they've got no choice, and that is a lot more drastic than appendix. So the premise of this book was so 1950s to start with having her lying around helpless for a week... In fact, thats the worst thing for post op patients. Even after major surgery they get you up and walking as soon as possible...then some of her other helpess responses to him. She's an adult with a child, suck it up and deal. its not his business, responsibility or obligation nor is she being held for questioning so why does she feel she has no other options ? She is free to go if she pleases. He cannot force her to stay at his place or answer his questions. If a man ever dismissed my decisions, plans and run rough-shod over me like the sheriff did when he packed up her hotel room without a warrant or her permission, in the state of Calif supposedly...ya, right! Lawsuit capitol of the world.
Well, I got so disgusted with the two main characters and the basic storyline that 1/3 of the way thru I finally gave up, a first for me as I usually stick it thru til the bitter end, but this one just had too many problems for me to stick with it.

Excellent examination of the current apostasy!

I was so impressed and riveted with the research and presentation of the information in this book, I read all 200+ pages in about 2 days. I could not put the book down. Amazing thing is, I've done most of this research myself and came to the same conclusions and discovered the same things. What Steve lays out here is a chilling and frightening picture of where we are today in the Visible Church. It is a correct analysis that we have become pleasure seekers and avoid true, genuine repentance at all costs. I have a different view about the Antichrist and how things will play out, but Steve even presented his conclusions in a very tactful and respectful way. This book is a must read for anyone seeking to walk with a whole heart before the Lord today! We need to rid our hearts of love of the world. Steve begins explaining exactly what that means and carries it on through the book, building from a solid foundation. Don't hesitate, buy it today!!!

Intoxicated with Babylon is incredible. In it lies the bare truth as to the lives we are living, watering down the beautiful TRUTH with the desires of self. We have become numb to the soothing voice of this world and its master and have allowed both to infiltrate our lives and the church. What we read Israel did in the Old Testament is what we are doing now. Just like the Laodician church, we have lost our first love. God bless Steve Gallagher for having the courage to pen such truth.

"The higher civilization rises, the more vile man becomes"

Brose, in his introduction, states that _A History of the Great War_ "targets upper-class undergraduates, graduate students and professors," seeking to "break the mold of the 'facts only, please' textbooks" and is therefore interpretive in scope. This does not preclude it from general audiences, and in fact I believe, recommends itself to a broader readership than merely academic circles. In examining the Great War, Brose combines both military history with its necessary poliitcal context, but also looks at the conflict as a global war - what many historians writing about the First World War ironically do not. (Tuchman's The Guns of August: The Pulitzer Prize-Winning Classic About the Outbreak of World War I, Keegan's The First World War and Ferguson's The Pity Of War: Explaining World War I - while all very good - tend to focus primarily on the war in Europe, especially the western front) What really separates Brose, however, is his interpretation of the war.

From the perspective of military history, Brose tackles some long-held (some may even say "cannonical") views of Schllieffen, Haig's strategy at Passchendaele, the battle of Jutland, and America's entry into the war "saving" the Allies (in this case, Brose specifically calls out Mosier The Myth of the Great War: A New Military History of World War I). Similarly, Brose reminds readers of how the war's prosecution led to a revolution in military affairs (RMA): in large scale amphibious operations, naval technology (switching from coal to oil, for example), in uniforms, creeping artillery barrages, predicted artillery fire, and defense in depth.

In terms of politics, Brose similary illuminates how the war effected the political fortunes of both generals and heads of state, and in turn, how these men shaped the presecution of the war both strategically and tactically. What I found most impressive however, was the golbal perspective he provides. To be sure the offensives in both France and Russia made up the majority of his history - but the impact of Japan's entry into the war (and their political objectives in doing so), the internal struggles the Ottoman's faced, the precarious position of Persia, and the objectives and importance of Africa were each given close attention. This level of detail highlights the global impact the war had on world civilization, and makes apparent how how much it was a truly *world* war.

As if the scope were not enough to warrant five stars, the maps provided are both abundant and excellent. My only complaint here is that the tactical maps are all placed together towards the front of the book, forcing the reader to "flip back" to read them. And while most of the maps are from the USMA showing troop disposition and movement, an idea of topography would have also been helpful. But I nit-pick here. Another feature to strongly recommend this book is Brose's excellent commentary in his endnotes: he reasoning behind his interpretation and his reasoning behind his points of disagreement with other historians is outstanding scholarship and are fantastic examples of how history is a living thing.

For anyone interested in a detailed, thoughtful and accessable history of World War One, this is my first recommendation.

A Great Service to students of the Great War

Prof. Brose's text is the best book I've read on The Great War. But it may not be what everyone wants to read. In about 400 pages Prof. Brose manages to tell the major details of military history for the war and to do justice to economic and social issues while also providing an overview of the years 1919 to 1926: including the Russian Civil War, the problems in Palestine, British colonies in Africa and Asia, the politics of the peace process that culminated in the Versailles Treaty.

Most of the histories of the Great War are either more narrow military histories that leave out (or minimize) larger social/political issues or they focus on political deal making and manipulation. Prof. Brose sets out to tell a global tale (the war in sub-Saharan Africa gets several pages, Japan's war is examined, the Middle East, and what becomes Iran and Iraq are included). He also includes information about the active peace movements in Europe, the end of various Empires, and some first hand accounts of the horrors of war. This means that anyone wanting a detailed military history might be disappointed. However, as a single text that has plenty of militaria for most readers and lays out much of social/political/economic context of the war that is missing from most similar histories, Prof. Brose has done the student of the Great War a great service.

Suny (political science, Univ. of Chicago; Looking Toward Ararat, Indiana Univ., 1993) is a highly regarded scholar of the late Soviet Union. His present work, a textbook survey of that country's "turbulent tale," charts the "traumatic and painful transformations" of Russia from decrepit tsarist autocracy to post-Soviet chaos, corruption, and uncertainty. Suny's tone is judicious, and his judgment that the Soviet experiment's great achievement of "rough modernization of a backward, agrarian society," which produced nonetheless an incompletely modernized society for the 1980s and 1990s, is well supported. He is particularly good on World War II, its cost, and its impact. Each chapter has suggestions for further readings, with a chronology of dates at the end. A good read

This is a good book for people just trying to get a grasp on what's going on. There are some "generalizations" as someone mentioned in an earlier review, but they are less unsubstantiated than they are just not always elaborated upon. I think it's a blessing, since Suny's other book on Soviet Essays & Documents is a lot more precise and, consequently, hard to get through. It's good information though, and especially in the Soviet Experiment his style of writing makes for an easy, fair-minded, fascinating read.

Fine Survey; 4.5 Stars

This is a very fine survey of Soviet history from the Russian Revolution to the collapse of the Soviet state. While this is a chronologically arranged account, Suny divides Soviet history into a set of sensibly selected periods. These are the Russian Revolution and establishment of the Soviet state in the Civil War, the period of modest relaxation of state efforts at control that was the New Economic Policy (NEP), the Stalinist revolution from above and WWII, the efforts at reform after Stalin, the stagnation of the Brezhnev decades, and the final effort at reform that led to the fall of the Soviet state. Major political, social, economic, and to a lesser extent, intellectual developments are discussed for each period. Suny makes a very successful effort to balance narrative and analysis. Controversial issues are described as such and references given to appropriate further reading. The balance between sufficient detail and maintaining a good narrative flow within the limits of a moderate sized survey is excellent. Consistent themes are the discrepancies between Marxist doctrine and the social realities of Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union, the enormous transformation of Soviet society that took place under the leadership of the Communist party, the brutality of Stalin, and the consistent Soviet suppression of civil society and democratic impulses. The bibliography is excellent. This book is an excellent entry into the complicated literature on the Soviet Union and recommended strongly.

Pretty good book

Lillian too combines a little bit of western numerology in the beginning of the book with chinese flying star feng shui - which of course is not, imo, always accurate as western numerology numbers do not correspond exactly to the flying star number interpretations. For example, the 4 in feng shui means the romance star, while in numerology it means foundation and work.
In the middle she delves a little more into flying star feng shui - but still does not go into enough depth for the serious practitioner. Still, there are some things in the book that are emphasized that I have not seen in other books and there are maybe 10-15 pages of information that I have not seen in other books.
Toward the end of the book she presents what I think to be chinese loshu numerology (I remember reading about it once a long time ago in one book). I'm not too sure how accurate this is as I've seen other types of numerology that are more accurate (and as a teenager I did read a lot of books on numerology). Still, it is interesting. One western type of numerology that I've seen uses the letters in a person's name instead of their birthdate. Forgot the title of that book though.
Overall I think this book is recommended. But I wouldn't use this as your main feng shui book guide but instead use it as a supplement. From my personal experience, you don't need metal pagoda's or specific chinese symbols to counter a bad flying star. Just the color and enough of that color in a sector (or that element) is enough to counter something. Suspect that this trend in feng shui was meant to make people buy stuff from vendors or feng shui practitioners and could have also served as a subconscious method of making the person believe in something to make it true.
If you're looking for 2 books that I have found to be somewhat accurate in feng shui, then get "Idiot's guide to feng shui 2nd edition", and "A Master's Course in Feng Shui" by Eva Wong. The Idiot's guide book is by far the most accurate book I've seen.. and I've read about 20 feng shui books or so..

Lillian Too...always excellent material...

This is the first book on numbers that I truly enjoyed. Not to say Linda Goodman
and other authors on the subjects are not good. She does cover familiar terrain.
Lillian Too covers many feng shui flying "star" numbers not previously known to
Western minds. It is an excellent book like all the rest of Madame Too's books.
I found it enlightening in regards to the study of feng shui. Feng Shui does in
great depth and breadth--it is very surprising. Who knew feng shui could be so
profound ? If you like the study of space energy and numbers then give this book
a try.

Just what I needed

I am doing a community forum and tryiing to do make some monthly training meaningful by including some deeper questions. The book has a lot of different categories with questions for each category. I was interested in open ended questions for goals and obstacles, but I found a lot of other categories that were applicable too. Great resource for Management goal setting.

I have read every book that Sarah Elisabeth has written and each one is better than the one before. Even though I had read the short version of this story in Sarah's "Touch My Tears", "Tushpa's Story" moved me like few other books have. Sarah writes clearly, is easy to read and follow and it is always evident that her research is thoroughly done. I highly recommend this book for everyone, but especially for those of you who are truly interested in the history of our country, and especially of The Trail of Tears. Keep writing, Sarah!

Miss Sarah takes the "Hollywood Indian" misconception out of the real story, and gives a true, gripping and inspiring view of what really happened. In TRAIL OF TEARS, she showed the hardships these early Americans suffered because the whites wanted their land that had been promised to be theirs "Forever"! Problem is, forever didn’t last very long. These were educated people, farmers, tradesmen and the like that were treated horribly. After reading the first in the series, couldn't wait to get the next one. Tushpa continues the saga in the same manner as the first. I came to know the people, and "lived" with them from page 1 to the very end. These were not savages, but Christian people for the most part. Chihowa (God) is a very important part of their lives. Beware, could not put this down until I got through it. Well worth the read! Yakoke, Miss Sarah!

I do not cry easily much less over an emotion inside a novel. However, I was overwhelmed with tears at one point in this book. So I must give it 5 stars for the most significant reaction to my readings this year. Some Indian names were hard to grasp which caused a jump in my concentration but the substance of the Trail of Tears history is so vivid in this novel that it ought to be required reading in every school. I said this about her last novel. I found myself wanting to keep and use words from the Choctaw language. The name of God, Chihowa, was so beautiful that I didn't want to leave it behind. She weaves the story through the reality of the walk, the weather and the weapons. She grabbed more of me than I knew was being collected. Chihowa is centerpiece and Jesus is glorified. Yakoke Sarah Elizabeth for another fine work.
